Uncle Hendrik Huizenga Grand Rapids in the Dutch Army 1912/13

Don?t know how you got by my private e-mail adress ? I?m curious about this ? but I?m willing to help you. In my opinion, your uncle is wearing the uniform of the 1st regiment of infantry, in the style of the blue short coat (veldjas) introduced in 1905. It was worn untill long into the mobilisation of World War I, since there was a shortage in uniforms of the gray 1912/1915 model. There are no rank insignia visible, so judging by this photograph your uncle was a common soldier, or ?milicien? as the drafted soldiers were called in the Netherlands.Hopefully this information is of value to you.Kind regards,Mark van Hattem Director/curator at Stadsmuseum Leidschendam

Found a letter send from my Uncle Hendrik  to my Dad in 1953 and there he wright's the following: Started in January 1914 in Groningen till August 1914, after the war started we where shipped to Gelderland and was there up to november  1918

When the war started I had to be stationed in Brabant/Gelderland my Dad Wrister Huizinga came on his bicycle all the way from Houwerzijl  30 km to Groningen saying good by , i was on one side of the fens and Dad on the other side
